I enjoy being a vegan but I sometimes get asked if I would consider a vegan raw diet. Sure I would love to go raw it’s healthier, but one problem exists for me, I love hot food. I know when you cook some food it loses some nutrients, but I don’t think I could go that far.
I do eat a lot of raw food, most of us do in salads, fresh fruit etc.. In the summer in particular I eat more raw. However in the winter I like warming soups and Sunday Roasts.
There is a wonderful Vegan Raw Restaurant chain in London called SAF with branches in Shoreditch and in South Kensington. SAF do a couple of hot dishes, but most of the food is RAW. I must say that the food there is fantastic, their vegan cheese (made with cashews) is totally amazing and the Pad Thai also is fantastic. Whenever I go I totally enjoy the raw food experience. The effort that goes into to raw food is greater than you would imagine, some food is dehydrated, some needs time to ferment, it can take hours for some of the preparation. The raw desserts are wonderful, they do an amazing chocolate torte which is divine. I will post a review on this Restaurant soon.
The benefits of a vegan raw diet are clear, however for now I can’t see going totally raw as a full time diet. However I do love all the exciting salads you can make and the vegan cashew cheese is divine so maybe I should include more Raw.
