A new Vegan Society Approved Vitamin D3 spray from Vitashine. This is the first Vegan Society Approved Vitamin D3, because D3 is usually derived from animal sources. This one is made by extracting the vitamin from a plant lichen, and this is done in a sustainable way.
I have to admit the spray at first is a bit weird, I did not like the idea of spraying something into my mouth, I suppose I am used to taking vitamin tablets instead. The spray is tasteless, and not unpleasant. You can either spray it directly into your mouth or on to food. It is really easy to use and I will definitely carry on taking it.
As a vegan I think this is great news, I often supplement my diet with vitamin D2 as it is in many soya products. However for the D3 I was relying on the sunshine, which in Britain is not a perfect solution in the spring, autumn and winter.
Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to many diseases so I am glad something has come on the market that vegans can use.
Each 20ml bottle is Vegan Society and Vegetarian Society Approved, no animal ingredients or connection to the product ( no sheeps wool used ). Helps maintain bones and teeth. Each bottle has 150 sprays ( rda is one spray) you can spray up to 5 times a day. Contains Vitamin E (derived from soya). You can currently buy it on line for £6.65

Please note my reviews are always honest and unbiased, however I feel it only right to point out that Vitashine did supply this product for me to review.

Hello Maggie
do you know why they put it in a spray instead of a tablet? stability of ingredients? – I’ve put in my order but first thought was: I’d have preferred a tablet.
thanks
Heidi
HI Heidi
I have had a reply with regards to the tablets, here is a copy of the email I had:-

Dear Maggie,
We put Vitashine into a spray for the first product launch to make it perfect for people of all ages (inc. Children) and secondly to allow choice of dose (each spray is 200IU, but 1 bottle contains enough for a month’s supply at 1000IU – 5 sprays – a day).
We are about to launch a 5000IU capsule, which is being manufactured right now. All being well it will be launched first week in January.
Vitashine Vitamin D3 is in oil format, so we can’t currently make a tablet, but we are investigating creating a powdered variant in future to allow tabletting.
I hope this helps.
Best regards

Hi Heidi
I am not sure why they do not do a tablet version. I have used the spray and it is fine, it does not taste of anything . I will email them and ask them if they do a tablet.
Take Care
Maggie
Keep in mind that with many tablets there is a lack of purity with fillers and binders and magnesium stearate which is very bad for internal organs that can do more harm than good.
