Today marks the beginning of a month of celebrations and awareness of the vegan lifestyle. World Vegan Day 1st November 2011. Hopefully more people will be encouraged to eat more vegetable based dishes, Meat Free Mondays does seem to be gathering momentum so lets keep telling others how great vegan food can be.
Vegetarian and vegan food used to be seen as a little bit hippy or weird, that is so not the case anymore. Even the celebrity chefs are getting in on the act, people are slowly realising that veggie food not only tastes good, it is healthier and better for the planet too.
Vegan food can be what you want it to be, there are lots of fake meat and fake fish out there, you only have to look in the vegetarian section in the supermarkets or health food shops to see an abundance of choice. Raw food, fresh vegetables and salads are taking off in a big way, as we are discovering these new tastes and textures. People who are dairy intolerant share in the vegan food choices with soya, eggless recipes like the yummy vegan cakes. You can even get a good vegan cheese these days. Vegan food is just great and I hope more and more people at least keep an open mind and try it.
