Tesco have launched some new dairy free alternatives to cheese and cream cheese in their free from range in the chiller section. Isle of Bute Foods the makers of “Sheese” are making it for Tesco so we can be confident of a quality vegan product. They are not in all Tesco stores yet but hopefully they will role it out to every store soon.
From Isle of Bute Foods
We are delighted to now be manufacturing a range of cheese alternatives for Tesco as part of their newly extended Free From products.
Look out for the new Soya Mild & Soya Medium cheese that really melts, and 4 types of Creamy cheese spreads including the new Sweet Chilli style.
These products are also free from palm oil (made using Coconut Oil) & only contain Natural Flavours. All the products in the Free From range are Dairy, Gluten & Wheat free and of course, all of the cheese alternatives are 100% Vegan.
Lets hope that more vegan products hit the supermarkets soon and make vegan food more accessible for everyone.

I’ve just tried two varieties of the ‘free from’ cheese… the soft, and the mild hard cheese. Unfortunately I found neither to be edible, honestly they taste like plastercine in my opinion. I’m a vegetarian and i’m looking into going vegan, i’m struggling to find alternatives to dairy that i like at the moment.
Hi David, check out Vegusto cheeses. They are really amazing. The won the “free from” awards last year i believe. now available in UK ~ I’d had them some years ago on the continent, and was blown away. The hard cheeses are really indistinguishable from (“good”) dairy cheese imho. Yes the tesco free-from cheese are…. well… Good luck there hombre
Hi David
Vegan cheese is always best with other flavours, so you get a hint of cheese. The best vegan cheeses for me are the ones with herbs in them. Sheese make a nice one sold in health food shops.
Hi David
When i became vegan I took my time, I slowly cut things out, dont do it all in one go because it can put you off. I find that savoury nuts and herb salt add lots of flavour to dishes and this for me is a good alternative to cheese, pine nuts toasted are very good on pasta dishes instead of cheese.
I hope that helps.

Teese is nasty whether it has a Tesco label or not.
First experience of soya cheese today. We bought it because our youngest daughter is allergic to milk so are looking for alternatives. Being responsible parents me and my wife decided to sample the cheese before exposing it to the kid. Got to be honest the results weren’t good. Being a man I decided to put a considerable chunk in my mouth even though after smelling it every alarm bell in my body was telling me not too. Once in it does have a very plastaceny texture and a sort of fishy caramel taste, a taste that just kept on giving. Took me 2 cups of coffee, half a punnet of strawberries and 4 chocolate brownies to get rid of. As for the wife, she managed to keep it in her mouth for a few seconds before her body rejected it onto the kitchen floor, was on the way to the sink but just couldn’t keep it in. Whilst on the floor the dog ran in and snatched it thinking he was in for a treat but seconds later decided it wasn’t for him and spat it out. So not our cup of tea but on a positive note it does look like cheese, just don’t eat it.
Thanks Rob, Paul and I were rolling on the floor with laughter after reading your comment. Vegan Cheese is not quite there yet, I know it can be hard, but you do get used to a life without cheese, I especially love pizzas with lots of pineapple, sweetcorn and other veggies and no cheese.
Has your child tried the Moo Free dairy free chocolate, it is so good for kids who cant have dairy as it is much like cadbury chocolate. I know it’s not cheese but I think she will like it.
thanks for the giggles
Maggie
