Vegan Smoky Beany Burger

Soya bean and rice organic smoked veggie burgers from Dragonfly.  I really enjoyed these burgers, but they are quite different than many veggie burgers out there.   The texture is soft and squishey,  it does hold together whilst you are cooking it but it is delicate.  The flavour is slightly smokey and savoury,  the flavours are again quite delicate.  The burger is very satisfying and filling.  Perfect on a roll with some ketchup and served with some salad and chips or sweet potato chips.  It is made using soya, vegetables and brown rice.  Very easy to cook under the grill, fry, oven or microwave.  I also like the Soysages that Dragonfly also make.

Each 200gram pack of 2 beany burgers are suitable for vegans, Vegetarian Society Approved.  Gluten Free and Organic.  Per burger is 183kcal.  I bought mine in an independent health food shop.  If you ask in Holland and Barrett they can order them in for you.

Vegan Corn Cakes

Organic wholegrain corn cakes from Kallo.  The corn is puffed into a light texture making these crackers.  They are a plain flavour with a slight toasted flavour.  Perfect for a low fat snack,  great with pates, salad toppings and vegan cheeses. I like that they are organic and only 16kcal per slice, great if you are trying to cut down on the calories.

Each 130gram pack of corncakes are suitable for vegans and vegetarians.  Per cracker is 16kcal.  Only ingredients are corn and salt.  Naturally gluten free.  Vegetarian Society Approved.  I paid £1.69 in an independent health food shop.

Vegan Gluten Free Bread Rolls

Gluten and wheat free soft white bread rolls from Dietary Specials.  I have tried a few gluten free breads and this one is not the best I have tried,  however they are OK,  it is better to warm them up in the oven before you eat them.  The bread is soft and quite heavy, quite doughy.  They are good for people with food intolerance problems.  They are good for sandwiches or even a burger.  I personally prefer the ciabatta rolls which I reviewed earlier from DS.

Each 200gram pack of 4 rolls is suitable for vegans (confirmed by email from Dietary Specials).  Wheat and Gluten Free.  Per roll is 111kcal.   Sold in supermarkets and some health food shops.

Vegan Gluten Free Biscuits

Gluten and wheat free chocolate cream biscuits from Prewetts.  These are a good biscuit, because they are gluten free they are a little bit more crumbly than some other similar biscuits.  They have an excellent flavour, the light chocolate biscuit with the chocolate cream centre is a delight.  Perfect for a teatime break, great for sharing.

Each 150gram pack is suitable for vegetarians and vegan as far as I can tell.  Gluten and Wheat Free.  Per biscuit is 109kcal.  I bought mine in an independent health food shop.

Vegan Sausage Mix

Meat free veggie sausage mix from Granose.   This mix makes 4 veggie sausages or if you like veggie burgers,  you can make them into whatever shape you like.  They taste savoury and really good.  They are very satisfying to eat.  Perfect for sandwiches, or for a traditional Sunday lunch type meal.  Great with ketchup or with gravy.  I also like them with mash potato and onion gravy.  They are very easy to make.

Each 150gram pack is suitable for vegetarians, vegan as far as I can tell.  Each pack makes 4 veggie sausages.  Vegetarian Society Approved.   Per 2 sausages is 164kcal.  Sold in health food shops and some supermarkets.

Veggie Chilli Red Onion Bruschetta

Oven baked bruschetta crackers with red onion chutney and chill flavouring from Morrisons supermarkets.   On its own the crackers are quite tasteless and bland,  however if you add a simple topping, for example a little bit of vegan margarine or some pate or salad, the flavours come out and taste very pleasant.   They are perfect for a light snack and would make an ideal party food.

Each 90gram pack is suitable for vegetarians, vegan as far as I can tell.   Per quarter of the pack is 100kcal.  Sold in Morrisons supermarkets.

Vegan Hair & Body Gel

Handmade happy hippy mellow yellow hair and body gel with freshly squeezed grapefruit from Lush.  I have only tried this as a body wash but I like it,  the zingy citrus smells seem to wake you up a bit.  The gel is a really good body wash, perfect for the shower,  it left my skin feeling clean and fresh,  the gel did not dry my skin.  I also like that it is vegan society approved.

Each 250gram bottle is suitable for vegans, handmade in England. I bought mine in a Lush shop on the High Street,  priced at £5.95.

Vegan Vacuum Packed Mushrooms

Ready to use porcini mushrooms in a vacuum pouch from Merchant Gourmet.  They suggest on the pack that you can use them on pizzas or in sauces.  I tried my pack in a mushroom risotto, using these mushrooms and some fresh Oyster mushrooms.  I have to admit I had hopes for them but they were quickly dashed.  Despite cooking as per the pack instructions, the mushrooms were not good,  the flavour was lacking and they were very chewy, so much so I could not eat them.  A bit disappointed really.

Each 100gram pack is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.   Per 50gram serving is 29kcal.  I bought mine in Morrisons supermarket.

Vegan Eco Washing Up Liquid

A large bottle of Eco washing up liquid from Ecoleaf (Suma).   For an eco washing up liquid I found this one good value,  you get a litre bottle for £2.35.  The liquid is good quality and you do not need to use much as it froths up very easily.  I like that it is BUAV approved.  Also the smell is pleasant and not overpowering.

Each 1 litre bottle is Vegan Society Approved.  BUAV approved.  Made from sustainable sources.   I bought mine in an independent health food shop for £2.35.

Vegan Mushy Peas

Frozen mushy peas from Morrisons supermarket.   It is good to see supermarkets actually marking foods as suitable for vegans which these peas are.  The peas are OK,  the flavour is good but not great.  They are great with chips or as a side dish.  The problem with them is they are a fiddle to make, you have to add water and simmer for 25 minutes whilst stirring occasionally.  I prefer the tinned version or the microwaved pots you can buy as these are very quick and I think have a better flavour.

Each 1kg pack is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.  Per 150gram serving is 127kcal.   Sold in Morrisons Supermarket freezer section.

Vegan Fruit Jelly Sweets

Organic Frooty Fruits gelatine free fruit pastilles from Just Wholefoods.   The sweets are really good flavoured, they have a sugar coating and are made with natural fruit juices.  The only thing that is not good is the colour,  they are dull and washed out looking.  It is a shame because the sweets do taste really nice.  Great for sharing.

Each 100gram pack is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.  Per 100grams is 355kcal.  Organic.  I bought mine in an independent health food shop.  Priced at £1.39.

Vegan Gluten Free Jammie Biscuits

Gluten and wheat free shortcake biscuits with strawberry flavour fruit filling.  Very similar to jammie dodgers,  the biscuits are pretty good.  The flavour is good and the jam is very sweet.  The shortcake biscuit is a bit too crumbly,  the biscuit literally falls apart when you bite into it.  They are crunchy and great with a cup of tea.

Each 160gram pack is suitable for vegetarians, vegan as far as I can tell.  Gluten and Wheat free.  Per biscuit is 94kcal.  I bought mine in an independent health food shop.

Vegan Red Miso Soup

Hearty red Miso soup with sea vegetables from Clearspring.   A warming red miso soup with little bits of sea vegetables.  The soup is savoury and not too salty with a satisfying warmth,  the sea vegetables are quite nice and add a nice flavour to the soup.   Made with whole soya beans and rice.

Each 40gram pack contains four sachets of soup.  Suitable for vegans and is Vegan Society Approved.  Made in Japan.   Each sachet is 28kcal.

Vegan Mango Chutney

Mild and sweet mango chutney from Pataks. I quite like this mango chutney,  the flavour is really sweet and light,  it is like a sticky jam.  I really like the chutney on the plain pappadums.  I also like it on onion bhajis.  Great with an Indian Meal.

Each 340gram jar is suitable for vegetarians, vegan as far as I can tell.  Once open the jar will keep in the fridge for 6 months.  Per 100grams is 222kcal.  Sold in supermarkets and health food shops for around £1.49.

Vegan Coconut Pineapple & Lime Juice Drink

Coconut water with pineapple and lime from Cocofina.  The drink is designed to refresh re-energise and rehydrate.   It was not for me,  the primary flavour is coconut with the other fruit juices tasting very watery.  It tasted like very diluted cordial with coconut.   It may be natural but I really did not enjoy it and would not have it again.

Each 500ml bottle is suitable for vegans.  Made with natural ingredients.  Per 100ml is 27kcal.  I bought mine in an independent health food shop.
