Flexitarians Reducing Meat Consumption Worldwide
I have just read the article in the independent about how “Flexitarians” are affecting the demand for meat. Apparently many people are turning part time vegetarian for health and this has reduced sales of meat and red meat is the hardest hit. People are also taking up the very popular “Meat Free Mondays Campaign”.
Obviously I think this is great news. The environmental impact to produce all that meat alone is humungous, so to get those numbers down can only mean good things for all of us. Also red meat has been linked to all sorts of illness and cancers.
Veggie diets are no longer a slightly odd thing in society, I know lots of people who are veggie, or who eat veggie food often. We have so many great options.
For those who like meat but do not like the ethics or health considerations of meat, there are so many great substitutes for example, Redwoods do a whole range of vegan fake fish and meat products, so do quorn (this does contain egg). So there is a good choice for everyone.
