Vegan Chicken Noodles

Instant noodles with a chicken style vegan flavouring from Sainsburys. These are very similar to supernoodles, they are a dried version which you add water to and heat up. They are very easy to make and taste not bad, the flavouring is a little week. It only takes a few minutes to make, so they are a fast meal if you are in a hurry and they keep for ages in the cupboard, so they can be handy to keep in.

Each 85gram pack is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Per half a pack is 275kcal. Sold in Sainsburys supermarkets.

Vegan Instant Sweet & Sour Pot

An instant vegan ready meal, vegetables in a sweet and sour sauce with ready done rice from Uncle Bens. This is so easy, you just heat in the microwave for one and half minutes and then mix the two pots together. Perfect for taking to work, or when you fancy something tasty and fast. The sauce is fruity and there is just the right amount to go with the rice which is also very good, perfectly cooked. These are so much better than the dried pot rice or pot noodle type ideas out there.

Each 300gram pot is suitable for vegetarians an vegan as far as I can tell. Per pot is 131kcal. Sold in supermarkets, I bought mine from Morrisons Supermarket.

Vegan Curry Pot

A quick vegan ready meal from Uncle Bens in a Medium Vegetable curry and rice pot. Single portion pot of rice and sauce that you microwave for one and half minutes and then stir together and its ready. I did not expect this to be any good, but I have to admit these are perfect for a quick meal, the flavour is a little sweet with vegetables and spices, not too hot. The rice tastes quite good. Ideal for taking to work for a lunch time meal or when you just can’t be bothered to cook.

Each 300gram pot is suitable for vegetarians, vegan as far as I can tell. 396kcal per pot. I bought mine in Morrisons supermarket.

Vegan Vegetable Dunkers

Mixed vegetables with a mild seasoning covered in a crispy crumb from Sainsburys. These are quite bland, they however are very crispy and a lovely texture. I like them with some spicy sauce like the Reggae Reggae Tomato Ketchup which gives them a nice lift. I suppose they are really aimed at children who I think would like these.

Each 360 gram box contains 18 dunkers. Suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans. Per 80gram serving is 175kcal. Sold from the freezer in Sainsburys. Cook in the oven or under grill.

Innocent Masala Veg Pot

Vegan Masala Veg Pot

Made with chickpeas, lemon rice and coriander an Indian Vegetable Masala from Innocent. I have tried a few of the veg pots now from Innocent and I would say that this one sits in the middle in terms of taste. The flavour is quite strong like you would expect from a masala. The vegetables and rice are pretty good. It does feel like even though this is fast food it does feel healthy.

Each 380gram pot is suitable for vegans. Vegetarian Society Approved. Very easy to cook Microwave for 4 mins. 3 of your 5 a day. Per pot is 331kcal.

I also like the Moroccan Veg Pot I reviewed earlier.

Veggie Chickpea & Spinach Ready Meal

From Sainsbury’s a veggie meal that takes just a few minutes in the microwave. This pot reminds me of similar ones from Innocent and the Cooperative. I thought the ready meal was perfectly adequate, it was filling and had a good flavour, the chickpeas and butternut squash were pleasant. It is perfect if you are in a rush or do not feel like cooking. It is not the best thing I have had but it was fine for a fast meal.

The packaging is a bit tricky, it is very hot from the microwave and it is very easy to burn yourself on it.

Each 350gram pot is suitable for vegetarians, vegan as far as I could tell. 2 of your 5 a day. Per pot is 355kcal.

I personally prefer the Veg Pots from Innocent, as they are easier to handle when cooking and the flavours are better in my opinion.

Amys Enchilada with Black Beans & Vegetables

Vegetarian Enchiladas

From Amy’s a Black Bean and vegetable Vegan Enchiladas. I thought that these enchiladas would be nice as I make home made ones which are lovely. These ones for me were not good. They had a funny smell that permeated through the entire house whilst they were cooking and the taste was just yuck. I did not find them in any way tasty, just unpleasant. I have tried a Burrito by Amy’s which was a much better option.

Each pack is 320kcal, Vegetarian Society Approved, suitable for vegans, dairy free, gluten free. From the freezer section. Sold in Holland and Barrett and some supermarkets.

Innocent Sweet Chilli Veg Pot

Innocent Veg Pot Sweet Chilli

This is the third Innocent veg pot I have tried. This one is very good. The flavours are sweet chilli without being overpowering and the vegetables and rice are great with a nice crunchiness to it. I was not a fan of the chopped sweetcorn, but I dont like baby sweetcorn. The water chestnuts were very nice. A good vegan instant meal, takes only 4 mins in the microwave. I would have this again.

This is better than the Thai Curry but equally as good as the Indian Daal Pot that I have reviewed in earlier posts.

Each 380 gram pot is Vegetarian Society Approved. Vegan, Dairy Free, Keeps in the fridge. Each pot is 213kcal. Contains 3 of your 5 a day. Sold in supermarkets.

Amys Bean Burrito

A new veggie brand into the UK, Amy’s have launched a couple of products. This Bean Burrito from the freezer section is the first one I have tried. I think this product is a great idea, as it is an instant hot meal after microwaving for 3 mins. It seems to be quite nutritious with beans and rice and a wholemeal burrito.

The burrito has a good wholemeal flavour, the rice and beans inside are a little bland, and the texture inside is a little mushy. To me it just need a little more spice to give it a lift. But it is a great lunch idea, or for when you can’t be bothered to cook anything.

Each 170gram Burrito is Vegetarian Society Approved, Vegan, Diary Free, made using organic beans and without pesticides. Cholesterol Free, No trans fats, Non GM. Each burrito is 165kcal. Made in California. Sold in some supermarkets and Holland & Barrett. Priced at £1.49.

Merchant Gourmet Puy Lentils

From Merchant Gourmet a Puy Lentil mix with sun dried tomatoes and basil, in a microwaveable pouch. Very easy to prepare. The serving suggestion is to have it with roasted vegetables or with Sausages (i would suggest it would go well with the Soysages I reviewed in an earlier post).

The flavour is not bad you can clearly taste the tomatoes and basil. The lentils are a good texture. I reviewed their Puy Lentils with Mushrooms which was nicer flavours in my opinion. They are great if you are in a hurry for a hot meal that is pretty healthy.

Each 250gram pouch is suitable for Vegans, Vegetarian, Dairy Free, Per half pack is 168 cal. Puy lentils are high in fibre. No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Sold in supermarkets.

Merchant Gourmet Puy Lentils & Mushrooms

Puy Lentils with Porcini Mushrooms & Thyme

From Merchant Gourmet a fast savoury vegan food. These puy lentils have been slowly cooked with rich porcini mushrooms & thyme. In a pouch that you can microwave for 1 minute to serve.

They have a strong savoury flavour and a good texture. I think it is a little dry however I do think it would go great as a pie filling, or with some stir fry vegetables. The serving suggestion is with sausages, I think that the Redwoods sausages would go really well with this. It is very filling but quite healthy.

Suitable for Vegans & Vegetarians, Diary Free, Each 100 grams is 120kcal. Sold in supermarkets, I found this in the pasta and rice section.

Thai Coconut Curry Veg Pot

From Innocent, Thai coconut curry with edamame beans, rice and lemongrass. I thought this was OK, not great. The texture was a mixture of crunchy vegetables with rice and sauce. The flavour was quite mild and I think lacked a bit of spice. To me it was missing something. I prefer the Indian Daal Veg Pot they do which I reviewed in an earlier post.

It takes 4 minutes in the microwave. Each 390gram pot is suitable for Vegans, Vegetarian Society Approved. Dairy Free, 3 portions of your 5 a day. Made with fresh vegetables. Each pot is 312kcal. The packaging is eco friendly.

Veg Pot from Innocent

Indian Daal Curry with spicy cauliflower, chickpeas and fresh spinach.

The texture is soft and slightly crunchy vegetables. The flavour is quite nice, not too spicy but pleasantly warming. I am not a fan of ready meals but this one is not bad. I would have it again.

Suitable for Vegans & Vegetarians, 3 of your 5 a day vegetables. Dairy Free. Per 380gram pot is 319Kcal. Vegetarian Society Approved. Takes 4 minutes to cook in a microwave

Sold in Supermarkets, I bought mine from the cooperative. It usually costs around £3.89
