A multi pack of 4 small packs of cinema sweet flavour popcorn from Uncle Sams.
I like the pack size, there is just enough for one. The popcorn is sweet and has a nice crunchy texture.
Each pack of 4x 17gram portions, are suitable for vegetarians and vegan as far as I can tell. Per pack is 81kcal. I got mine in Poundland
A squeezy bottle of brown sauce from the Co-operative supermarket.
I like brown sauce on a vegan breakfast or a sausage sandwich. This brown sauce is quite nice, it has a good balance of flavour, it has a slightly stronger tangy flavour from the vinegar it contains than some other brown sauces. A good vegan option
Each 480gram bottle is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. As per the Co-op vegan list. Per 15gram serving is 15kcal.
I was having a bit of a rough day and to pick me up a bit Paul made me some cookies from the “Ms Cupcake The Naughtiest Vegan Cakes in Town” recipe book.
It is shocking how good these cookies are. They are chewy and crispy. I don’t think I have had a nicer vegan cookie.
The recipe makes a huge quantity so I recommend that you half it which is what Paul did, He got 8 massive cookies using half the ingredients. They seem quite easy to make and taste wonderful. Be warned that these cookies are high in fat and really should only be made as a treat.
You can modify the recipe and add nuts, dried fruit or other things. This is a great vegan recipe book
Vegan Grilled Asparagus Spears
A jar of grilled green asparagus spears in sweet vinegar from the Deluxe range of Lidl supermarket.
I have never seen these before, so I was looking forward to trying them out. They retain quite a firm texture. The sweet vinegar compliments the griddled asparagus flavour which still cuts through. Great on a side of a sandwich or pie to add some extra flavour.
Each jar is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. I like that Lidl are now taking vegans more seriously with their labels. I paid £1.69 in Lidl
A pack of 4 leek and potato soysages from Dragonfly Foods.
I actually bought these by mistake, I thought they were the original Soysages, the packaging is so similar it is hard to tell them apart.
Very similar to Soysages, they have a firm but crumbly texture. These ones have added potato and leeks, which is nice and does add a strong flavour of both. They make a nice change with a warming peppery flavour. I enjoyed them.
Each pack of 4 Soysages are suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Vegetarian Society Approved. Gluten Free Dairy Free, Sold in Health Food Shops.
A pack of assorted dates stuffed with walnuts, marzipan or pistachio nuts from the Deluxe range of Lidl supermarket.
This is a lovely selection of stuffed dates. The three fillings, marzipan, pistachio and walnut, compliment the taste of the date well both in terms of taste and presentation. Quite enjoyable.
Each 105gram pack is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. I like that Lidl are now taking vegans more seriously with their labels. I paid £2.99 in Lidl
A pack of American style hard gums from the Toute Sweet range of Lidl supermarket.
These are not the hardest American hard gums that I’ve tasted, but they are at the firm end of the spectrum. They have nice distinct flavours, the white are pear drops, the black have a strong blackcurrant, lemon, orange, strawberry or raspberry and green, which I think is apple flavour. A perfectly lovely pack of sweeties.
Each 250grams large pack is suitable for vegetarians and vegan as far as I can tell. Per 50grams is 159kcal. Sold in Lidl for 59p.
Vegan Organic Leek & Potato Soup
A tin of organic leek & potato soup free from wheat gluten and dairy from Free & Easy.
I found this soup to be OK at best. I expected a lovely flavour of leek and potato, but what I got was mostly earthy lentil flavour, with a hint of leek & potato, which was nice but not what I expected. The soup is quite thick. OK for when you don’t have time to make anything.
Each 400gram tin is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Organic. Free from gluten, wheat, dairy. Made in the UK. I bought mine in an independent health food shop.
A bar of natural ginger dark chocolate from Beech’s.
This medium size bar of chocolate is quite pleasant. The chocolate is dark and slightly bitter, but with the warming sweet ginger it works really well. The ginger is warming, not the burning ginger you can get. A good bar.
Each 60gram bar of chocolate is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Vegan Society Approved. Per 100grams is 549kcal. I got mine in the April Vegan Tuck Box
A cold pressed nut seed and hemp protein bar from Creative Nature.
The main flavour of this bar is peanuts. It has a little sweetness but not much, the sweetness comes from the dates and raisins. The bar is soft with crunchy nuts. It is quite nice.
Each 38gram bar is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Per bar is 170kcal. I got mine in The Vegan Kind April Box.
A handmade flapjack with whole oats, walnuts and dates from Wholebake.
This is a substantial flapjack and very filling. As flapjacks go it is fairly sweet, the dates are nice and the bits of walnuts are lovely. This is a good flapjack, not the best I have tried but enjoyable.
Each 80gram flapjack is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Vegetarian Society Approved. Per flapjack is 440kcal.
A squeezy bottle of classic yellow mustard from French’s.
I love this mustard and use it in lots of dishes, for example the tofu scramble in todays Tofu review and an ingredient for salad dressing. It is a lovely mild mustard that adds a really lovely flavour to almost anything. It is not harsh or hot, it is just mellow.
Paul has done a little recipe that he uses with leftover baps or bagels:-
Slice bread into thin strips – stale bread works fine for this, and bagels are particularly tasty done this way (the picture is a burger bun).
In a small bowl or ramekin, mix 2-3 tbps olive oil with a squirt of French’s Classic Yellow Mustard, a drop of agave syrup (optional) and black pepper to taste. Throughly mix these to make an emulsion, then add dried chives to taste.
Brush onto one side of the bread slices and grill on a medium heat until golden brown. Perfect accompaniment to patés.
Each 397gram bottle is suitable for vegans and vegetarians (as per website). Per 100grams is 73kcal. Sold in supermarkets.
A pack of treacle toffee shards from Coconut Rose Bakery.
I know this is a bit late, as they are perfect for bonfire night. The large treacle shards of toffee are really lovely. They are hard and quite large, I had to smash mine up a bit more. They taste wonderfully of black treacle. Great for a little treat with an intense treacle flavour. They also contain vitamins including, B12, D2, Vitamin A, Vitamin E.
Each 100gram pack is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Dairy Free. Made in the UK. I got mine from Vegan Tuck Box.
A pack of multi-grain cereal made with natural colours and flavour from Kellogg’s.
I am not quite sure why, but this packaging and the idea of this cereal repulses me, however it seems to be vegan so let me tell you what I think of it.
The colourful cereal rings are coloured using nettle, spinach, carrot, blackcurrant and paprika extract. The cereal is made with oat, wheat and maize flours, and sugar and glucose syrup. The cereal tastes OK, it is really sweet. The cereal is crunchy and holds its texture in the milk. Personally I would not have this again, but it is OK.
Each 350gram box is suitable for vegetarians and vegan as far as I can tell (see faq). Per 100grams is 391kcal. I found this one in Aldi.
