Vegan Egg Replacer & Vegan Meringue
A pack of gluten free natural egg replacer from Orgran.
I have used this egg replacer for years in baking and it works really well, it is very simple to use.
I noticed on the box a recipe for Vegan Meringue, so I thought we should give it a go. The results are pretty close to how I remember egg meringue to be. It is sweet, crunchy and slightly chewy. On the negative side it takes hours to make and they go soft really quick, so as soon as you cool them down, put them in an air tight container.
After following the instructions, the meringue came out of the oven very dry indeed – and as such it was pretty flavourless and not very convincing. When left on the side, it started to take on moisture from the air very quickly – but this is actually a good thing as it adds a little bit of chew and that makes them feel more authentic and the taste improves somehow. Just be careful not to let it go too far. I had mine with Schlagfix squirty cream and strawberries and it was a very nice little treat.
Each 200gram box makes 66 egg replacements. Suitable for vegans, vegetarians. Gluten free, soya free, yeast free. Sold in most health food shops.
